Este estudio tiene como objetivo comparar la coherencia como elemento de la verdad, tan importante en James, con una explicación más reciente sobre la coherencia aportada por Davidson, con la finalidad de mostrar hasta qué punto son coincidentes sus planteamientos al considerar que éste último posee una orientación pragmatista en sus explicaciones sobre esta materia; y que ambos parecen concebir la coherencia como prueba de la verdad. Al final se muestra que al compartir James y Davidson algunos compromisos ontológicos y epistemológicos, entre otros, el antifundacionalismo y la ausencia de intermediarios epistémicos, la coherencia está presentada como garantía o resguardo.
This research aims to compare coherence as an element of truth, which is very importantly found in James’ work, with a more recent explanation about coherence given by Davidson, in order to demonstrate to what extent his approaches coincide when considering that the latter has a pragmatist orientation in his explanations about this subject, and that either James or Davidson seem to conceive coherence as an evidence of truth.
In the end, it is shown that they share some ontological and epistemological commitment, among others, antifoundationalism and the absence of epistemic intermediaries, coherence is present as a guarantee or receipt.
