When tourists plan to travel to a certain place, not only is their motivation visiting monuments and stroll through its streets, but they also seek to know its culture, gastronomy, and wine. These last motivations are playing more and more a key role in the decision on whether to travel. To this respect, wine festivals can be an important component in building a tourist destination brand and at the same time, for wineries a key element to sell and promote their products. There is a shortage of empirical data examining the characteristics and behaviors of tourists attending these festivals, and specifically the Montilla-Moriles wine festival, located in the south of Spain, called Cata del Vino de Montilla-Moriles. This paper analyzes the motivation and satisfaction of non- resident visitors in the city, who have attended this festival, by fieldwork consisting of a specially designed survey that was answered by 508 tourists, 403 Spaniards and 105 foreigners, conducted at the Festival. The results show highly educated visitors, with diverse reasons for attending, although related to enology and gastronomy, and those of a hedonic type are highlighted. The Festival has positive influence on how tourists see the city, though they believe in the need to encourage the marriage of wine and food and to incorporate complementary cultural offers.
