Educación para la Ciudadanía fue una área educativa que se implantó en el sistema educativo español por medio de la Ley Orgánica de Educación (LOE) de 2006, bajo el Gobierno Socialista de José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. Desde el momento en que el Gobierno expresó su intención de desarrollar este tipo de educación cívico-democrática, respondiendo a diversas responsabilidades y compromisos contraídos con Naciones Unidas y el Consejo de Europa, los sectores teoconservadores de la sociedad española se movilizaron para deslegitimar, obstaculizar y eliminar la implementación de esta educación. El Partido Popular jugó un papel muy activo en este proceso movilizador contra Educación para la Ciudadanía. La pretensión de este artículo es examinar, precisamente, la línea discursiva y de actuación seguida por el Partido Popular en relación a esta educación. El análisis permitirá comprobar cómo la acción del Partido Popular de eliminar esta área educativa, materializada con la implantación paulatina de la nueva Ley Orgánica de Mejora de la Calidad Educativa (LOMCE), de 2013, ha respaldado el discurso del neotradicionalismo católico y ha situado a España a la cola del resto de países europeos en educación cívico-democrática, levantando las críticas de la comunidad internacional al respecto.Cómo referenciar este artículoMuñoz Ramírez, A. Education for Citizenship was an educational area implanted in the Spanish educational system with the Organic Law of Education (LOE), of 2006, under the Socialist government of Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. From the moment that the Government expressed its intention to develop this type of civic and democratic education, responding to various responsibilities and commitments with the United Nations and the Council of Europe, theocons sectors of Spanish society mobilized to delegitimize, obstruct and eliminate the implementation of this education. The People’s Party was very active in this mobilizer process against Education for Citizenship. The intention of this article is to examine the discursive line and of action followed by the People’s Party in relation to this education. The analysis will verify how the action of the People’s Party to eliminate this educational area, materialized with the gradual implementation of the new Organic Law of Education Quality Improvement (LOMCE), of 2013, has supported the discourse of Catholic neotraditionalism and has placed to Spain at the tail end of the other European countries in civic and democratic education, generating the criticism from the international community in this regard.How to reference this articleMuñoz Ramírez, A.
