Students are better able to experience scientific practices through inquiry-based investigations. Furthermore, using a variety of good books related to science topics or issues allows teachers to make adaptations to meet the individual needs of all learners, which can in turn reduce frustration and increase engagement. In this project, we identified high-quality science books for use in inquiry-based classrooms for students aged 11-15. We focused on aligning high-quality literature with strands frequently aligned with science for this age group: Earth/space, life, and physical science content. Specifically, our focus was on integrating books within the 5-E inquiry model of instruction.
