Working time is an essential concern in the interest of the health and safety of the road transport workers (professional drivers). The existence of a profuse regulation for this purpose (national and community) shows good evidence of thís; however, untíl very recently the self-employed workers of the sector -which are very many-were far from the existing regulatJon ín terms of the maximum driving times and the mínimum rest and ínterruption periods \('Ihat put them in a difficult situation the connection between occupational accidents and the excess of hours road driving.
In this sense, the current artic1e ínsists on the fact that the working hours factor has an impact on the number of accidents and reviews the afore mentioned regulation, highlighting the publication of the recent Royal Decree 128/2013, of February 22 nd , about the organization of the working time for the self-employed people performing mobíle road transport activities [BOE of February 23rd 2013J. Such regulation implies a significant development for the self-employed labor force, including the econol11'ically dependent self-employed (TRADEJ, in the reinforcement of tneir health and safety conditions.
