This paper examines the Wealth Tax as a potential environmental policy instrument. After a historical overview of wealth taxation in Spain, it analyzes the current structu-re of the tax and its extrafiscal potential, focusing on environmental measures adopted at state, regional, and foral levels. The study shows that only Catalonia, Galicia, and Biscay have introduced limited environmental provisions. It also explores the Tempo-rary Solidarity Tax on Large Fortunes, which largely mirrors the existing tax without environmental innovation, and reflects on the future integration of ecological objectives into wealth taxation.
