The justification of how the coded language used in intercepted telephone conversations is valued rarely occupies a prominent place in the reasoning process of judicial decisions. Nevertheless, the valuation process is particularly sensitive in these cases, since we are no longer in the field of (direct) valuation of the content of a given conversation, but rather in the field of extracting a connotative meaning from the words used by the interlocutors. It is therefore required, by means of such an activity, to obtain an objectively founded conviction, for which purpose it is fundamental to resort to the rules of logic and common experience. As a result, we defend the possibility of the criminal investigation judge, during the investigation phase and when monitoring the wiretapping process, being assisted by an interpreter in the task of interpreting the meaning of the coded language detected.
