On 7th of August 2020 Portugal ratified the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, which will come into force on 1st of October 2021. This Convention assumes the primary objective of creating a legal regime which regulates, in a unified manner, contracts for the international sale of goods. Thus, and given the diversity of legal systems where the Convention will be in force, it is necessary to make an autonomous interpretation of its content, otherwise that objective would be frustrated.
Therefore, the scope of application of the Convention will be analysed in order to understand to which legal situations it applies and, at the end, we will make a brief incursion over the party autonomy principle and its role over the exclusion of the applicability of the Convention, using as an example some typical situations.
