This paper examines the recognition of the right to care as an autonomous human right by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in its Advisory Opinion No. 31/25. It argues that the Advisory Opinion marks the transition of the right to care into an advanced stage of emergence. The study analyzes the nature and legal authority of advisory opinions; the interpretative techniques employed by the Court; the principles underpinning this newly articulated right; and its three constituent dimensions: the right to care, the right to be cared for, and the right to self-care. It also synthesizes the corresponding state obligations arising from its guarantee and the legal implications of its recognition.
