The present study examines the lawsuit that marked the initial stages of the construction of the classrooms of the Jesuit College in Arévalo between 1595 and 1596 aiming to underscore the immense significance of the mystical and religious heritage that took place in the town of Arévalo from the late 16th century onward. This litigation was conducted between the Town Council of Arévalo and the Society of Jesus, on one side, and Pedro de Zúñiga Palomeque, a resident of Arévalo on the other; due to the latter’s refusal to allow the agreement reached with the Society which involved, among other aspects, the granting of a series of plots of land located behind his house. An examination of the statements made by each of the parties in litigation, as well as the witnesses they presented, provides valuable data about neighbourhood attitudes, urban planning details prior to the construction of the building, and clarifications regarding property of the houses in the vicinity, claiming that, between 1599 and 1602, they would be transformed into the church of Santiago, current church of San Nicolás.
