The academic performance of university students is influenced by various factors, with motivation being one of the most relevant. Athletics, as an accessible sport, can improve this motivation and, consequently, academic performance. Practicing athletics promotes not only physical health but also skills such as self-discipline and time management, essential for academic success. Lack of motivation has been identified as a cause of poor performance, and athletics can strengthen students' self-efficacy by allowing them to experience achievements and overcome obstacles. This study seeks to analyze how athletics acts as a motivational element in the academic process, considering the scientific relevance of the topic and the need for strategies that foster motivation in the university setting. The research was conducted with a quantitative approach, using a descriptive and correlational design. The population consisted of 65 students from the Technical University of Babahoyo, representing academic and gender diversity. A validated structured questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data on athletic participation, perceived motivation, and academic performance. Independent (athletic participation) and dependent (academic performance) variables were defined, and correlation tests were applied to analyze the relationship between them. Eighty percent of students regularly participate in athletics, reporting greater satisfaction and motivation toward their studies. Students who participate in athletics have a 20% higher average grade compared to those who do not participate.
