Stations represent meeting points within the city, places of exchange and con-fluence that, depending on their form, can contribute to the creation of more sustainable urban environments. This article analyses the stations of the Santiago Metro, identifying their different typologies and their contribution to the construction and improvement of the surrounding public space. The study examines the characteristics of each station’s line, architecture, and location, elements that are subsequently synthesized through an obser-vation of their constituent parts or components. In this way, five station typologies are identified, corresponding to different periods and construction methods, but which together reveal a shift from a model characterized by greater openness and integration toward one marked by increased autonomy and enclosure. This trend, the article argues, must–and can–be reversed in order to restore more connected and inclusive urban environments around the metro system.
