Adolescents focused on having instead of being immerse themselves in dissatisfaction and a life full of emotional deficiencies and problem-solving skills, highlighting the need to enhance their sense of purpose and maturity for learning. Therefore, a competency-based learning experience is developed and applied, and the sense of purpose is measured before and after the application. This is an empirical and experimental study, where the objectives are: firstly, to verify the psychometric characteristics of the Purpose In Life (PIL) inventory, and secondly, to assesswhether the intervention of a competency-based learning experience can increase the sense of purpose in adolescents. A longitudinal, quantitative, descriptive, and comparative research is conducted. The construct of sense of purpose is measured in 1068 applications of the inventory, and the characteristics of the adolescents are collected using an ad hoc questionnaire. The data were analyzed with Cronbach’s Alpha, factor analysis, and the T-test were used. The results showed high reliability of the PIL inventory in adolescents, and its validity reveals four intervening factors in the life meaning of adolescents. The research highlights students’ interest in the experience of competency-based learning, due to the increase in participation. Education in vital skills is intendedto contribute to personal well-being and develop the self.
