Violence among adolescents is a current public health issue. The present study explores the frequency, directionality, typology and contexts of violence among adolescents in secondary schools from a gender perspective and from the point of view of teachers. A qualitative methodology was used, which triangulated 23 individual in-depth interviews and five focus groups, with a total of 53 teachers from the Community of Madrid (Spain). The results obtained indicate that violence between boys or boys towards girls, verbal abuse, and violence over social media, were the most frequent manifestations. Differences in violence were identified according to the gender of the students, finding that physical violence was more frequent in boys and verbal violence in girls. The role of gender in these behaviours and the consequences and implications for schools are discussed.
