The conceptual framework on nature or nurture currently emphasizes the deep and permanent interconnection between environment and identity, providing an innovative perspective on social research. This qualitative research conducted in Medellín, Colombia, questions the mutual influence and reaction of women teachers to their environment and situation. The research responds to a model of interpreting voices and experiences in a natural context from a gender perspective. The results show that an environment of fragility and historical violence does not lead necessarily to a response of passivity or fear. Women's involvement in teaching contexts and in their personal spaces lessens negative influences about the determinants of fragile and vulnerable environments. Additionally, given that in Colombia violence is deeply embedded in the structure of society and in the very existence of hierarchical positions (WHO 2018), this study aimed to understand the level of awareness among female teachers. Their voices reveal a recognition of a social structure based on violence and political-economic power. This capacity for reflection and engagement is what helps them counteract the negative interrelationship with their environment. Likewise, the credibility of qualitative research has been supported through the careful design of four inherent elements: a deep conceptual framework, a contextual framework that configures the authentic reality in which the participants live, an instrument for analyzing and categorizing the voices that offers systematization to the interpretation, and, together with all of this, rigor in the research. The complexity of the links between gender identity and structural violence moves us away from simplistic explanations; however, no environmental pressure is strong enough to override the autonomy and will of women.
