La Sentencia del Tribunal Supremo 689/2025, de 3 de julio, se incardina en la importante litigiosidad suscitada en los últimos años en torno al reconocimiento a determinadas figuras de personal docente e investigador laboral y, muy especialmente, al profesorado asociado, del derecho a que su actividad docente e investigadora sea evaluada y, en caso de superar favorablemente dicha evaluación, a adquirir y consolidar los complementos económicos por méritos docentes –quinquenios– e investigadores –sexenios– previstos al respecto.
The Supreme Court ruling 689/2025, of July 3, is part of the significant litigation that has arisen in recent years regarding the recognition of certain teaching and research staff, and especially part-time associate professors, of the right to have their teaching and research activities assessed and, if they pass this assessment, to acquire and consolidate the financial benefits for teaching (five-year periods) and research (six-year periods) merits provided for in this regard.
