Según Angela Breitenbach, la importancia que Kant confiere a la teleología en el estudio de la naturaleza orgánica no sólo es compatible con las posiciones epistemológicas contemporáneas, sino que significa un avance en el debate sobre el tema. Ello se debe a que Kant propone una concepción teleológica general de la naturaleza según la cual considerar que algo es orgánico supone ya considerarlo teleológicamente. Si bien estoy de acuerdo en que el análisis que Kant propone es relevante para la discusión contemporánea acerca de esta cuestión, intento mostrar que, desde su punto de vista, la identificación y experiencia de lo orgánico como tal no supone una perspectiva teleológica, sino que esta última surge cuando queremos explicar ciertos caracteres de los organismos que, de otra manera, resultarían difícilmente inteligibles.
According to Breitenbach, the importance that Kant attaches to teleology in the study of organic nature is not only compatible with contemporary epistemological positions, but also represents progress within the framework of the ongoing debate on the topic. This is because Kant proposes a general teleological conception of nature according to which con-sidering something as organic already means considering it teleologically. Although I agree that the analysis that Kant proposes is relevant to the contemporary discussion about the issue, I try to show that, from his point of view, the identification and experience of the organic as such does not suppose a teleological perspective, but the latter occurs when we want to account for certain characteristics of organisms that, otherwise, would be hardly intelligible.
