El potencial turístico gerontológico en México es un tema emergente debido a la explosión demográfica que está experimentando la parte superior de su pirámide poblacional, de ahí la importancia de la investigación, ya que el aumento de la población de adultos mayores puede contribuir al desarrollo socioeconómico de los municipios veracruzanos. El objetivo de la investigación consistió en elaborar un mapa de potencial turístico gerontológico capaz de jerarquizar cada uno de los municipios de Veracruz en función de sus ventajas turísticas y de las necesidades de los adultos mayores. El trabajo se compone de tres secciones: la primera de ellas aborda el andamiaje teórico-práctico del turismo gerontológico y su evolución histórica a nivel mundial; luego se expone la ruta metodológica, la cual consistió en la selección de 19 parámetros para la confección de patrones de potencial turístico gerontológico, los cuales se procesaron con técnicas geoestadísticas de análisis espacial con información limitada; finalmente, se dan a conocer los municipios que cuentan con el mejor potencial turístico dirigido a los adultos mayores. Conforme al modelo, en orden de prelación, los resultados destacan a Boca del Río, Orizaba, Xalapa y Poza Rica como los municipios más adecuados para el turismo gerontológico en Veracruz.
The gerontological tourism potential in Mexico is an emerging issue due to the demographic explosion that the upper part of its population pyramid is experiencing. Hence the importance of the research since the increase in the population of older adults can contribute to the socioeconomic development of the municipalities of Veracruz. The objective of the research was to prepare a gerontological tourism potential map capable of ranking each of the Veracruz municipalities according to their tourist advantages and the needs of older adults. The work is made up of three sections: the first one deals with the theoretical-practical scaffolding of gerontological tourism and its historical evolution worldwide; Then the methodological route is exposed, which consisted of the selection of 19 parameters for the preparation of patterns of gerontological tourist potential, which were processed with geostatistical techniques of spatial analysis with limited information; Finally, the tourist potential of the municipalities that have the best tourist potential for older adults is disclosed. The results, according to the model, in order of priority highlight Boca del Río, Orizaba, Xalapa and Poza Rica as the most suitable municipalities for gerontological tourism.
