The aim of this essay is to explore the potentialities of the dialogue between Paulo Freire and Baruch de Spinosa about the concepts of joy and hope, and also how fundamental these are to think about teaching practice in the liberating perspective, which is always «do- discência», that is, exchange between those who learn and who teach. It is a theoretical and exploratory research, with the purpose of assisting in liberating educational practices, based on a tribute to the «Patron of Brazilian Education», especially in the Pedagogy of the Autonomy. For Spinosa, humans beings are beings of affection, that is, that constitute themselves in relationships, affected by others, and these affections can expand or reduce our possibilities of action. Joy is an affection that expands our power to act, and sadness is the opposite of that. And hope is joy, in the same way, however, bordered by the doubt that something may occur. Teaching is linked with joy and hope in Paulo Freire, because joy is the meeting of two hopes that communicate fruitfully and interact to expand. The article is divided into two parts: in the first we bring the Spinosan reflections on joy and hope. In the second we deepen the core of the discussion, which is this conception of joy and hope in teaching, through paulo freire’s way.
O objetivo deste ensaio é explorar as potencialidades do diálogo entre Paulo Freire e Baruch de Spinosa a respeito dos conceitos de alegria e esperança, e, ainda, de como estes são fundamentais para se pensar a prática docente na perspectiva libertadora, que é sempre dodiscência, ou seja, troca entre quem aprende e quem ensina. Trata-se de uma pesquisa teórica e exploratória, com o fim de auxiliar em práticas educativas libertadoras, a partir de uma homenagem ao «Patrono da Educação Brasileira», especialmente na Pedagogia da Autonomia. Para Spinosa, os seres humanos são seres de afeto, ou seja, que se constituem nas relações, afetados por outros, e estes afetos podem ampliar ou reduzir nossas possibilidades de ação. A alegria é um afeto que amplia nossa potência de agir, sendo a tristeza o oposto disso. E a esperança é a alegria, desta mesma forma, porém, margeada pela dúvida de que algo possa ocorrer. A docência vincula-se com a alegria e a esperança, em Paulo Freire, porque que a alegria é o encontro de duas esperanças que se comunicam fecundamente e interagem para se expandir. O artigo está dividido em duas partes: na primeira trazemos as reflexões spinosanas sobre alegria e esperança. Na segunda aprofundamos o cerne da discussão, que é esta concepção de alegria e esperança na docência, pela via de Paulo Freire.
