Este artículo se dirige a analizar la construcción discursiva realizada por la prensa, la Iglesia católica y el estado del culto a la Santa Muerte los cuales, en su conjunto, han creado un discurso que relaciona a esta devoción con la violencia, el narcotráfico y el satanismo. Para esto se llevó a cabo la revisión de artículos periodísticos publicados en las últimas dos décadas. Las relaciones evidenciadas entre estado, religión y sociedad civil son sumamente complejas y ha llevado a estigmatizar a parte de la población relacionada con este culto. El clima de opinión creado ha favorecido la toma de medidas contra la devoción, pero también ha llevado a los devotos a tomar responsabilidad pública de su fe y a la construcción de una narrativa apologética propia.
This article aims to analyze the discursive construction carried out by the press, the Catholic Church and the state of the cult of Santa Muerte that, together, have created a discourse that relates this devotion to violence, drug trafficking and Satanism. For this, the review of newspaper articles, published in the last two decades, was carried out. The relationships evi-denced between the state, religion and civil society are extremely complex and have led to the stigmatization of part of the population related to this cult. This climate of opinion has favored the taking of measures against worship, but it has also led devotees to take public responsibility for their faith and to build their own apologetic narrative.
