Che effetto hanno le migrazioni sui salari dei lavoratori nativi? Hanno un effetto? Questo articolo, basandosi sulla presenza dei lavoratori immigrati e sulla composizione delle competenze di questi, analizza, tramite un modello econometrico, come le differenze nella distribuzione dei lavoratori immigrati impattano sul salario medio e sulla distribuzione dei nativi italiani, adottando un approccio simile a quello impiegato in Dustmann, Frattini e Preston (2013).
Partendo dall’ipotesi teorica che l’immigrazione abbasserebbe i salari nei punti della distribuzione dei salari in cui gli immigrati sarebbero più abbondanti, i risultati empirici mostrano che l’impatto complessivo per il salario medio e mediano è positivo, mentre risulta negativo per il 25esimo percentile della distribuzione dei salari dei nativi. Per tenere in considerazione la possibile endogeneità proveniente dalla dislocazione degli immigrati sul territorio, la differenza prima della distribuzione degli immigrati è stata trattata utilizzando diversi lag temporali della stessa come variabile strumentale, sebbene questa non si dimostri essere uno strumento affidabile dal sesto lag in avanti.
