El 13 de diciembre de 2023, durante la presidencia española en el Consejo, la UE y Chile firmaron el Acuerdo Marco Avanzado y el Acuerdo Interino de Comercio con vistas a reforzar la cooperación política y fomentar el comercio y la inversión entre las partes. Tras un análisis breve de la evolución de las relaciones comerciales entre la Unión Europea y Chile y de las oportunidades de crecimiento económico y de seguridad derivadas del acuerdo bilateral, el presente trabajo estudia, por una parte, la arquitectura jurídica dual que se ha utilizado para plasmar los compromisos alcanzados durante el proceso de modernización del Acuerdo de Asociación UE‐Chile y, en segundo lugar, los compromisos en materia de comercio y desarrollo sostenible, en materia de comercio e igualdad de género y las disposiciones relativas a las inversiones. A modo de consideraciones finales, se pondrá de relieve la relevancia simbólica del acuerdo entre la UE y Chile en un contexto global de crecientes tensiones geopolíticas, perturbaciones de los flujos comerciales y tendencias proteccionistas.
On December 13, 2023, during the Spanish presidency in the Council, the EU and Chile signed the Advanced Framework Agreement and the Interim Trade Agreement with the aim of strengthening political cooperation and promoting trade and investment between the parties. After a brief analysis of the evolution of the trade relations between the European Union and Chile and the economic growth and security opportunities arising from the bilateral agreement, this paper examines, on the one hand, the dual legal architecture used to formalize the commitments made during the modernization process of the EUChile Association Agreement, and on the other hand, the commitments in the areas of trade and sustainable development, trade and gender equality, and provisions related to investments. In the final considerations, the symbolic significance of the agreement between the EU and Chile will be highlighted in a global context of growing geopolitical tensions, disruptions in trade flows, and protectionist trends
