Africa faces a diverse typology of land conflicts and the African Union has adopted land instruments that could significantly contribute to the prevention of land conflicts. However, because of the non-binding nature of these instruments, may not have an impact on land conflicts. On the other hand, increasing the land acquisition in Africa by an international coalition requires more realism on the part of African Union member states, for a binding legal instrument such as an African Charter on Land Governance to be adopted for better regulation of land issues in Africa.
