La implementación de metodologías docentes como el transformative learning, flipped classroom, learn by teaching, peer feedback learning, problem based learning... convierten al estudiante en protagonista de su aprendizaje (student centered learning) y para ello se le insta a un mayor nivel de implicación. Para lograr este compromiso y con ello la eficacia de estas metodologías, el estudiante debe estar motivado. Una de los recursos pedagógicos que dispone el docente para incidir en la motivación es la retroalimentación o feedback. Un feedback bien ejecutado aporta a las personas información sobre su desempeño que debe servir, bien para que éstas detecten cuáles son sus áreas de mejora y pueda trabajar en ellas o bien para que conozcan sus puntos fuertes y pueda potenciarlos y desarrollarlos. En el ámbito académico la dificultad para aportar un feedback de calidad no es tanto por la capacidad (conocimientos y habilidades) del docente para ofrecer un buen feedback, sino por el carácter rutinario que pueda adquirir dicha tarea y por tanto por la actitud con que la aborda. Es preocupante que algunos docentes puedan considerar la retroalimentación como una tediosa tarea administrativa y no como una verdadera herramienta pedagógica. Es por ello que con esta investigación se pretende aportar datos para determinar en que medida el feedback influye en la motivación del estudiante y con ello en el rendimiento académico. Para la realización del estudio se ha contado con una muestra de 256 estudiantes universitarios de los grados de marketing y de educación física, elegidos por muestreo probabilístico estratificado por cursos y por género. Se ha pedido a los participantes que realicen una tarea que han tenido que repetir en tres fases diferentes, con independencia del área de formación a la que pertenecen (marketing y educación física). La primera fase ha sido de entrenamiento para que puedan calibrar las características de la tarea. En la segunda fase se ha dividido la muestra en cuatro grupos diferentes que han ejecutado la tarea de manera diferente: un grupo ha recibido información exacta; otro información incorrecta; el tercero no ha recibido ningún tipo de información; al cuarto grupo se le han transmitido mensajes de ánimo. Finalmente, en la tercera fase han repetido todos la misma tarea sin ningún tipo de información con la finalidad de observar los resultados obtenidos y la incidencia de la retroalimentación. Con los datos resultantes se constata que hay una relación directa entre la información que se ofrece y el nivel de satisfacción con la tarea realizada. Esta satisfacción incide también en la percepción que puedan tener los estudiantes sobre la tarea realizada en terminos de divertida/aburrida o en la predisposición que muestren a ejecutar de nuevo la tarea. Todos estos conceptos están estrechamente vinculados con la motivación. Un feedback de calidad es generador de motivación, en tanto que su ausencia o incluso un feedback erróneo genera desafección. Se observa también que el feedbackestá relacionado con el rendimiento académico. El estudio realizado demuestra con datos estadísticos que el feedback motivador es positivo para aumentar el grado de satisfacción y motivación del alumnado en tanto que el feedback correcto mejora el desempeño de los estudiantes en las tareas realizadas. Esta investigación pretende potenciar el compromiso del profesional de la educación para que asuma con rigor (nunca de manera rutinaria) la responsabilidad de aportar un feedback objetivo y constructivo
The implementation of new teaching methodologies (transformative learning, flipped classroom, learn-by-teaching, peer feedback learning, problem-based learning and the like) transform students into the protagonists of their own learning (student-centered learning) and thus requires a greater degree of involvement. To achieve such a commitment, and thus ensure the effectiveness of these methodologies, the student must be motivated. One of the pedagogical resources available to the teacher to influence motivation is feedback. Well-executed feedback provides students with information about their performance that should be useful, either so that they can detect areas for improvement or focus on them, or that they become aware of their strengths and can reinforce and develop them. In the academic field, the difficulty in providing quality feedback is not so much because of the capacity (knowledge and skills) of the teacher, but because of the routine nature that it can represent. It is worrying that some teachers may consider feedback as a tedious administrative task, and not as a true pedagogical tool. This research therefore aims to provide data to determine to what extent feedback influences student motivation and thus academic performance. To carry out the experiment, a sample of 256 undergraduates following marketing and physical education degree courses was employed. They were selected by probabilistic sampling stratified by courses and gender. The participants were asked to carry out a task that they had to repeat in three different phases. The first phase was a training session so they could calibrate the characteristics of the task. In the second, the sample was divided into four groups who were asked to execute the task in different ways: one group received exact information; another, incorrect information; the third did not receive any type of information; and messages of encouragement were transmitted to the fourth group. Finally, in the third phase, they all repeated the same task without any type of information in order to observe the results obtained and the incidence of feedback. The resulting data show that there is a direct relationship between the information provided and the level of satisfaction obtained after completing the task. Such satisfaction also affects the perception that students may have about the task performed in terms of being fun/boring or the predisposition they show to repeat the task. All these concepts are closely linked to motivation. Quality feedback generates motivation, while the absence of information, or even incorrect information, leads to disaffection. It was also observed that feedback not only influenced psychological aspects (motivation), but also explained academic performance. This research aims to strengthen the commitment of the educational professional to rigorously (never routinely) assume the responsibility of providing objective and constructive feedback
