El presente artículo tiene como objetivo determinar la relación entre la agenda política y la agenda de los medios digitales en torno a la candidatura presidencial del actor populista Donald Trump del año 2016, desde el tratamiento de los medios digitales New York Times y Wall Street Journal al actor populista de derecha Donald Trump, así como también desde la cuenta oficial de Twitter, @realDonaldTrump. Como rango temporal se toma el total de la campaña, comprendido entre el 19 de julio y el 8 de noviembre del año 2016, con un corpus de 2693 unidades de análisis (1280 tweets y 1413 noticias, respectivamente). A través del análisis de contenido como método, se analiza el papel de los medios seleccionados como actores políticos durante la campaña, los principales aspectos de confrontación presentes en las agendas, la presencia de actores, construcciones temáticas y adversarios, así como también la construcción de la categoría del pueblo (desde una noción del populismo de derecha radical), en ambos soportes informativos. Se obtiene como principal hallazgo que los medios de comunicación fungen como actores políticos en este proceso al construir la imagen del candidato desde una perspectiva negativa, favoreciendo a la demócrata Hillary Clinton.
This article aims to determine the relationship between the political agenda and the digital media agenda around the 2016 presidential candidacy of the populist actor Donald Trump, from the treatment of the digital media New York Times and Wall Street Journal to the Right-wing populist actor Donald Trump, as well as from the official Twitter account, @realDonaldTrump. The time range is the total of the campaign, between July 19 and November 8, 2016, with a corpus of 2693 units of analysis (1280 tweets and 1413 news items, respectively).
Through content analysis as a method, the role of the selected media as political actors during the campaign is analyzed, the main confrontational aspects present in the agendas, the presence of actors, thematic constructions and adversaries, as well as the construction of the category of the people (from a notion of radical right populism), in both news media. The main finding is that the media act as political actors in this process by building the image of the candidate from a negative perspective, favoring the Democrat Hillary Clinton.
