Los discursos de los gobernantes a la nación sobre la pandemia de Covid-19 se han convertido en una parte central de la emisión de muchas televisiones. Muchos ciudadanos siguen estas ruedas de prensa porque pueden verse afectados por las medidas que los gobiernos puedan tomar contra el virus. Debido a su importancia, es relevante examinar cómo estos ciudadanos perciben a sus líderes políticos en estas apariciones televisivas y así determinar su influencia. Por ello, este estudio busca analizar la percepción del exPresidente de los Estados Unidos (Donald Trump), el Primer Ministro del Reino Unido (Boris Johnson) y el Presidente del Gobierno de España (Pedro Sánchez) en las conferencias televisivas dedicadas a la lucha contra la pandemia del Covid-19. Una muestra equilibrada en género de 360 ciudadanos de estos tres países (Estados Unidos, Reino Unido y España), tras ver dos vídeos de cada líder, evaluó su atractivo, su credibilidad y su capacidad de persuasión, así como la influencia de estos factores en la actitud hacia ellos y la intención de voto mediante una encuesta online. Los resultados mostraron que el Presidente del Gobierno español, Pedro Sánchez, fue considerado el líder más atractivo, creíble y persuasivo con la actitud más favorable hacia él y la mayor intención de voto, seguido del Primer Ministro, Boris Johnson, y del político estadounidense, Donald Trump. Por tanto, el líder más atractivo física y vocalmente y con mayor nivel de credibilidad y persuasión consiguió la actitud más favorable y la mayor intención de voto. Las variables más influyentes del modelo estructural analizado en este estudio fueron la persuasión y la credibilidad, que afectaron principalmente a la actitud hacia el político y, en menor medida, a la intención de voto.
The discourses of the political leaders about the Covid-19 pandemic have become central to many television networks. Many citizens follow these press conferences, as they can be affected by the government’s measures against the virus. Due to its importance, analyzing how these individuals perceive their political leaders in these television appearances is relevant to determining their influence. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the perception of the ex-President of the United States (Donald Trump), the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (Boris Johnson), and the President of the Government of Spain (Pedro Sánchez) in television conferences devoted to battling against the Covid-19 pandemic. After watching two videos of each leader, a gender-balanced sample of 360 citizens of these three countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, and Spain) evaluated the politicians’ attractiveness, credibility, and persuasiveness as well as the influence of these factors on the public’s attitude toward them and voting intention using an online survey. The results showed that the Spanish President, Pedro Sánchez, was considered the most attractive, credible, and persuasive leader with the most favorable attitude toward him and the highest voting intention, followed by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and the American politician, Donald Trump. Therefore, the most physically and vocally attractive leader with the highest credibility and persuasiveness achieved the most favorable attitude and the highest voting intention. The most influential variables of the structural model analyzed in this study were persuasiveness and credibility, which mainly affected the attitude toward the politician and, to a lesser extent, voting intention.
