Año tras año la contaminación por plástico está afectando de modo irreversible el medio ambiente, el sector del turismo también es socialmente responsable y debe procurar salvaguardar los recursos naturales, ayudando a encontrar soluciones para disminuir el consumo de plásticos de un solo uso. Esta investigación alcanza el diseño y fabricación artesanal de una bandeja biodegradable para empaque a partir de vaina de arveja. El objetivo fue brindar un producto capaz de reemplazar a las bandejas hechas con poliestireno expandido, que sea amigable con el medio ambiente. El método utilizado se dividió en 4 fases: Fabricación de empaque netamente con vaina de arveja; elaboración matriz de selección de componentes adicionales; diseño y manufactura de prototipos de bandejas;
ejecución de pruebas mecánicas. Los resultados mostraron que era necesario adicionar más componentes a la bandeja hecha netamente con vaina de arveja para darle mayor flexibilidad, resistencia a la humedad, propiedades antimicrobianas y antioxidantes.
Year after year plastic pollution is irreversibly affecting the environment, the tourism sector is also socially responsible and must seek to safeguard natural resources, helping to find solutions to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics. This research covers the design and the manufacturing handmade of biodegradables packing starting pea shell. The objective of this research is to provide an environmentally friendly product capable of replacing trays made with expanded polystyrene. The method used is divided in 4 phases: manufacture of packing purely with peas; development of matrix of selection with additional components;
design and manufacture of prototypes of trays; execution of mechanical tests. The results showed that it was necessary to add more components to the tray made purely with pea pod to give it greater flexibility, moisture resistance, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
