El presente estudio tuvo por objetivo indagar la relación entre el uso de redes sociales virtuales con autoestima, rendimiento académico y hábitos de estudio en estudiantes de segundo y tercero medio de establecimientos educacionales de la provincia de Concepción. Método: es un estudio descriptivo y correlacional, de corte transversal y cuantitativo. Los instrumentos utilizados el inventario de autoestima de Coopersmith, adaptado por Hellmut Brinkman (1987) para Chile, la escala "Adicción a redes sociales" (ARS) creada por Miguel Escurra Mayaute y Edwin Salas Blas (2014) y una batería de preguntas relacionadas con los objetivos del estudio. Resultados: Se obtiene para autoestima total que un 23.63% de lo/as estudiantes se ubica en "normal" y el 19.9% se ubica en "baja autoestima. Un 43.64% obtiene "valores bajos" en la escala ARS y un 24.55% obtiene "valores medios". Se encontró asociación inversa y estadísticamente significativa entre autoestima total y adicción a redes sociales.
The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between the use of virtual social media with self-esteem, academic performance and study habits in second- and third-year students from educational establishments in the province of Concepción. Method: it is a descriptive and correlational, cross-sectional and quantitative study. The instruments used are the Coopersmith self-esteem inventory, adapted by Hellmut Brinkman (1987) for Chile, the "Addiction to social networks" (ARS) scale created by Miguel Escurra Mayaute and Edwin Salas Blas (2014) and a battery of questions related to the objectives of the study. Results: It is obtained for total self-esteem that 23.63% of the students are in "normal" and 19.9% "‹"‹are in "low self-esteem. 43.64% obtain "low values" on the ARS scale and 24.55% obtain "medium values". An inverse and statistically significant association was found between total self-esteem and addiction to social networks.
