This paper presents an analysis of the growth of the urban spot in Luís Eduardo Magalhães, state of Bahia (Brazil), between 1987 and 2017. The paper aims to analyze the advance of the agricultural frontier and its possible influence on the demographic dimensions of this municipality. This research made use of satellite images in a multitemporal way, verifying the development of the mentioned urban spot, at intervals of 10 to 10 years. As outcome from the data, there were detected moments of expansion and retraction of the urban spot, being these influenced by the advance of the agricultural frontier in the region
Este trabalho fundamenta-se na pesquisa sobre o crescimento da mancha urbana em Luís Eduardo Magalhães, localizada no estado do Bahia, Brasil, entre os anos de 1987 e 2017. A questão norteadora da pesquisa refere-se ao avanço da fronteira agrícola e sua possível influência nas dimensões demográficas do município. Essa pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar de forma multitemporal imagens de satélite, verificando o desenvolvimento da mancha urbana mencionada,em intervalos de decênios. A partir dos dados obtidos, detectaram-se momentos de expansão e retração da cidade, sendo esses influenciados pelo avanço da fronteira agrícola na região.
