The basis for the present reflection is a commonly shared conviction that there is an inseparable relationship between human rights and social work.
On the occasion of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we intend to highlight the interest, efforts and journey taken by Social Work through its most representative international organizations: the International Federation of Social Workers and the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW). It emphasises aspects considered mandatory for those people who participate in the teaching and practice of social work: they are supposed to know and understand thoroughly human rights and the international mechanisms that have been developed to protect them, become familiar with the existing instruments, both international and regional, to implement human rights, and commit themselves genuinely and unconditionally with the promotion and protection of human rights and the fulfilment of fundamental social aspirations.
