The so-called “Trial of the Century” between Ecuadorian Amazonian communities and the oil company Chevron marked an international milestone and set its sights on one of the most powerful transnationals in the world as the cause of one of the worst environmental catastrophes due to oil spills. The following text shows the ecological and socio-cultural damages of this fact. It details the chronology of the trial showing a process of resistance by the affected plaintiffs. It also invites reflection and questioning of the extractivist economic model and the role of international justice organizations.
