Con base en los intercambios realizados en el XII Congreso Centroamericano de Sociología y el proceso de reforma del Plan de Estudios de la Escuela de Sociología de la Universidad de Costa Rica, este artículo presenta algunas reflexiones acerca del estado actual de la sociología centroamericana y de los retos que la misma enfrenta hacia futuro, con énfasis en la conformación de una red interinstitucional y una comunidad académica para el conjunto de la región. Se señalan algunos de los desafíos más importantes que enfrenta la sociología centroamericana, se avanzan algunas líneas y propuestas estratégicas para apuntalar el desarrollo de la disciplina, la profesión y la vocación; finalmente, se presentan algunas de las iniciativas que se han estado realizando en los últimos años con el fin de encarar esos retos y poner en marcha esas propuestas.
Based on the exchanges done on the XII Central American Congress of Sociology and the reform of the Curriculum of the School of Sociology at the University of Costa Rica, this paper presents some thoughts on the current status of Central American sociology and the challenges that it confronts toward the future, with emphasis on the creation of an inter- institutional network and an academic community for the whole region.
Also, some of the most important challenges that Central American sociology faces, are pointed some strategic proposals to prop up the development of the discipline, profession and vocation, finally, some of the initiatives conducted in recent years are shown to the aim of facing those challenges and implement these proposals.
