    La delimitación del origen de la democracia representativa ha sido fruto denumerosos estudios que culminaron el 18 de junio de 2013 con la consideraciónpor parte de la UNESCO de las Cortes de León de 1188 como origen del sistemarepresentativo parlamentario actual. Los Decreta de León constituyen el corpusdocumental que contiene la manifestación, constatada hasta el presente, más antigua al sistema parlamentario europeo y que se plasmó en su inclusión en el Registro de la Memoria del Mundo. Por su semejanza con las prácticas modernas derepresentación parlamentaria, podría considerarse que poseen un patrimonio constitucional y suponen la primera piedra fundacional del estado de Derecho y de lalegalidad.

    The delimitation of the origin of representative democracy has been the resultof numerous studies that culminated on June 18, 2013 with the consideration by UNESCO of the Cortes de León of 1188 as the origin of the current parliamentaryrepresentative system. The Decrees of León constitute the documentary corpusthat contains the manifestation, verified up to the present, older than the Europeanparliamentary system and that was reflected in its inclusion in the Memory of the World Register. Due to its similarity with modern practices of parliamentaryrepresentation, it could be considered that they possess a constitutional heritageand represent the first foundation stone of the rule of law and legality.
