El presente artículo muestra resultados logrados a través de un proyecto investigativo realizado en la parroquia y comuna Chanduy, Ecuador, mediante el cual se pone de manifiesto el papel que desempeñan la comunicación y participación comunitaria en un proceso de estudio y fortalecimiento de la cultura popular y sus prácticas, como parte de una propuesta de cambio social. El objetivo perseguido fue la identificación de fortalezas del capital simbólico comunal y sus potencialidades a desarrollar mediante un proceso real de empoderamiento de los actores implicados. Se aplicó una metodología cualitativa, empleando técnicas propias del método etnográfico, para obtener datos y conocer el significado que le atribuyen sus principales protagonistas; así como la participación de éstos en el diálogo y acciones conjuntas con los investigadores.
Como resultado fue posible caracterizar la situación y además la identificación de varios ejes de trabajo comunitario, como potenciales vías de transformación y su puesta en marcha, a partir de las adecuaciones pertinentes. Se concluye que la participación de la comunidad en un proceso de cambio, requiere en primer lugar el manejo adecuado de la comunicación, desde una posición de respeto a su cultura, participando en ella, ayudando a reconocer y potenciar sus valores.
This article shows results achieved through an investigative project carried out in the parish and commune of Chanduy, Ecuador, through which the role played by communication and community participation in a process of study and strengthening of popular culture and its practices, as part of a proposal for social change. The objective pursued was the identification of the strengths of the communal symbolic capital and its potentialities to be developed through a real process of empowerment of the actors involved.
A qualitative methodology was applied, using ethnographic techniques, to obtain data and know the meaning attributed to it by its main protagonists; as well as their participation in dialogue and joint actions with researchers. As a result it was possible to characterize the situation and also the identification of several axes of community work, as potential ways of transformation and its implementation, based on the pertinent adjustments. It is concluded that the participation of the community in a process of change, requires in the first place the proper management of communication, from a position of respect for their culture, participating in it, helping to recognize and enhance their values.
