La cultura taína fue la primera que se encontró Cristóbal Colón en el Nuevo Mundo a partir del 12 de octubre de 1492. En el artículo se estudia la relación de Cristóbal Colón y los primeros colonizadores de América con la civilización taína, y se analiza el proceso de establecimiento de los españoles tanto en el Fuerte Navidad, primer asentamiento español en América, como en La Isabela. Tras exponer los rasgos esenciales de esta civilización precolombina, al final del artículo se muestra el legado taíno en el Caribe
The Taino culture was the first civilization that Christopher Columbus encountered in the New World as from October 12, 1492. In the paper, the relationship between Christopher Columbus and the first settlers of America with the Taino civilization is studied and is analyzed the establishment process of the Spaniards in Fuerte Navidad, as the first Spanish settlement in America, and in La Isabela. After exposing the essential features of this pre-Columbian civilization, the Taino legacy in the Caribbean is shown at the end of the article.
