This article presents the principal theses on religion of the Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo, from a hermeneutic - debolist (from pensiero debole or weak philosophy ) and biographical perspective; in particular that on Roman Catholic Christianity, from his book Credere di credere ( Belief ). This is followed by a summary of some dialogues on the subject by other contemporary philosophers who have more common ground than differences with Vattimo. Especially noteworthy among these dialogues is an exchange with José Luis L. Aranguren (1 909 - 96), proposed by the author and based on his own research on this Spaniard philosopher.
