In this paper, I seek to understand the issue of poverty from the metric of the capability approach, and this encourages me to justify the participation of the poor. The paper is structured as follows. First, I will assess the debate between capability and Rawls’ theory. Then, I will move on to explain the advantages and difficulties faced by the capability approach in trying to recognize people’s heterogeneity and factors of simultaneous disadvantages. Finally, this analysis will allow me to have a clearer theoretical framework regarding capabilities and to evaluate them as means to listen and give voice to those who live in conditions of poverty.
