El presente artículo pretende delimitar y definir el derecho a ser olvidado. Algunos acontecimientos de carácter marcadamente político estuvieron en la génesis del debate vivido en torno a la necesidad de proteger a los ciudadanos frente a la utilización abusiva de sus informaciones personales, especialmente de aquellas que circulan en Internet. El camino recorrido hasta la aprobación del Reglamento (UE) 2016/679 del Parlamento Europeo y del Consejo, de 27 de abril de 2016, relativo a la protección de las personas físicas en lo que respecta al tratamiento de datos personales no ha sido fácil ni pacífico, siendo causa de intensos debates en el seno de las instituciones y organismos comunitarios.
This paper aims to identify and define the right to be forgotten. Some political events were in the root of the intense debates around the need to protect citizens against abusive usage of personal data, specially the ones circulating on the Internet. The road until the approval of the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 27 April 2016, on the protection of natural persons with regard of the processing of personal data, which finally establishes and safeguards the right to be forgotten hasnt been easy nor peaceful, causing fierced discussions within european institutions and organizations.
