The identification of tax as a social fact is dependent on a dual ontological and epistemological perspective. From an ontological point of view, tax remains a mental tool adorned with the unifying virtues of citizenship. However, the combination of knowledge that presides over the elucidation of the epistemological status of taxation in the XXth century leads to revisiting the political legitimacy of taxation
L'identification de l'impôt comme un fait social est tributaire d'une double perspective ontologique et épistémologique. D'un point de vue ontologique, l'impôt demeure un outil mental paré des vertus unificatrices de la citoyenneté. Cependant, la conjugaison des savoirs qui préside à l'élucidation du statut épistémologique de l'impôt au XXIe siècle conduit à revisiter la légitimité politique de l'impôt.
