El cambio en el sistema de elección de diputados en El Salvador, tanto para la Asamblea Legislativa como para el Parlamento Centroamericano, es consecuencia de la sentencia emitida por la Sala Constitucional, que declara que es inconstitucional el sistema de elección de listas cerrada y bloqueadas al lesionar el artículo 78 de la Constitución Política. Changes in the current Salvadoran voting system of representatives (congress members) for both the National Legislative Assembly and the Central American Parliament are a consequence of a decision of the Constitutional Chamber of the Salvadoran Supreme Court of Justice. This landmark decision stated that the former system of closed and blocked lists was against article 78 of the Constitution and was therefore unconstitutional. Thus, this study seeks to outline the Salvadoran experience with the newly introduced electoral system of open lists, its pros and cons and the expectations it generated in the people
