The aim of this paper is to present a critical assessment of the intersectional shift in gender studies and contemporary feminist theory. It starts out by analyzing K. Crenshaw’s theoretical project and the debates generated around it. Then, the development of discourse on intersectionality is examined. Subsequently criticism made by poststructuralist and Marxist feminism is addressed. Finally, our conclusion is that the intersectional shift is neither a theory nor a theoretical perspective or paradigm, but a plural and diverse discourse, on social reality. We warn about the risks and threats of that discourse.
