In this article it is going to be analysed the influence that variables as gender, habitat, centres’ ownership or parents’ education have on the performance obtained by the students in the exams to opt for the Extraordinary Award of Secondary Education (ESO) called by the Department of Education of Galicia’s Council since the course 2007-2008. Since to participate in the award the students need to have an average mark of outstanding in the whole Secondary Education, significate differences between thvariables analysed are not initially expected to exist.
To do that, a review of the literature has been made and the results obtained by 1.522 students during the period 2008-2013, in Galicia, have been analysed using different methodologies of analysis as the Analysis of Unifactorial and Factorial Variance, 63% of the students present in these tests, 70,6% with university parents, 67,5% of the city and 61,8% coming from the public school.
The main conclusion is that the variables do influence in a significate way on the performance of this collective of outstanding, being gender, parents’ education and habitat the most relevant ones. The ownership of the centres is the less influential variable. Taking that into account, the profile that gets the best performance are male pupils with university family that live in the city, even though female gender has more presence in the tests.
