Este estudio tiene como objetivo documentar y analizar las consecuencias que han tenido las recientes políticas dirigidas a los docentes en América Latina para esta profesión. Se centra en tres aspectos que han precarizado la labor de los docentes en las últimas décadas: por un lado, los procesos de intensificación del trabajo de los maestros en las aulas; por otro, la imposición de mecanismos de diferenciación salarial para romper la homogeneidad de las percepciones económicas y, finalmente, la pérdida paulatina de los derechos laborales que habían logrado los trabajadores de la educación. This article offers a wide panorama of the recent situation of the elementary school teachers labor in Latina America in the last two decades. The object of the study is documentate and analyze the precarization of the teacher labor. The analysis focuses in three aspects of the teacher’s work in schools: first, the intensifica- tion of the labor in the schools; second, the imposition of a new model for the payment to teachers denominated: merit pay; translated in policies of competitivity through exams for teachers and students; and three, the teachers are loosing slowly their labor rights. The theoretical element used to analyze the phenomenon is the process of precarization in the last years in Latin America
