Las ciudades turísticas europeas han sido acondicionadaspara representar los estereotipos difundidos. La imagen se harevertido a la fuente, la retiene como la apariencia de lo quequizás fue y que ahora el consumo cultural demanda. Portanto, el viaje al encuentro de espacios previstos se enfrentasólo con la imagen que persiste, haciendo imposible la experienciaimaginada. Se verá, en cambio, cómo las ciudadesfronterizas del norte de México –Tijuana, Juárez y Nogales–,ofrecen la realidad reproducida en imágenes; esto precedidode un largo preámbulo de acercamiento a las arquitecturas yvecindarios defensivos.
Touristic European cities have been attired to fit within widelyheldstereotypes. The image has been transposed back tothe source, and it holds it in place as the appearance of whatit perhaps was and which cultural consumption demandsthat it be now. Thus the trip towards foreseen spaces onlyarrives at the existing image, making the imagined experienceimpossible. This article will explore how the Northernbordercities of Mexico – Tijuana, Juarez and Nogales – offer,on the other hand, reality reproduced in images; this shall bepreceded by a long preamble that closely explores defensivearchitectures and neighborhoods.
