This paper shows how theories of learning and the curriculum have been changing conceptually in recent times. The work provides a brief review from the more technical and mechanical perspective of the behaviourist paradigm, to the more holistic and comprehensive view of constructivism, trying to understand that the aforementioned changes involve new ways of understanding educational assessment. The author makes a reflection on how the new ideas about learning and curriculum imply changes in the theoretical concepts of assessment. These changes have a greater impact at the level of theoretical discourses rather than in terms of pedagogical practices, where assessment is still based on behaviourist parameters. The author concludes with a brief analysis of the role of assessment in the new education law (LOMCE).
