The Royal Artillery Factory of La Cavada is considered one of the most important manufacturing and mining installation of the modern era, in Spain. The high furnaces, initially localised in Lierganes, are defined as the most ancient of the Spanish country. Later on, they were moved to La Cavada (Riotuerto, Cantabria) where they started operating since 1622, remained active until 1835. Lamentably, most of the manufacturing installations disappeared. Although the town of Riotuerto still preserves parts of the original installation, they seem to be poorly conserved. This heritage certainly has a high tourism potential. The aim of this research is to offer an approach that will allow the requalification of the remaining ruins, and, at the same time, the conversion of them into a point of interest.
