The Royal Society Young People's Book Prize aims to inspire young people to read about science and promotes the writing, publishing and reading of excellent, accessible books for under-14s. The Prize allows children to engage with quality science books, developing their literacy and their understanding of science. It also encourages reading as a social activity, inviting young people to discuss the books with peers and vote on the best. This combination makes the award unique in the national setting and can provide wide-ranging benefits for children, as well as inspiration for teachers in developing their teaching of literacy and science.
