Freedom – his exercise and ownership- has been a central theme in the thinking of the social sciences throughout its existence. However, each school of thought has defined and addressed his study from different points of view. For this reason , this research presents and contrasts studies of three of the most influential writers of the twentieth century: F. Hayek, Isaiah Berlin and J. Rawls. This doctrinal opposition will allow to conclude that liberal freedom swings between autoderminación and recognition. Through the major original texts of these three authors and others and using an analytical –comparative methodology are achieved outline the different contours of liberal freedom and its links to self– determination and due recognition. Similarly, it is possible to open and a debate on the different projection of freedom in today’s liberalism.
