La Unión Europea en su política exterior desarrolla relaciones con otras organizaciones internacionales y en este ámbito tiene una posición innovadora, por ejemplo, la Unión, es decir, en aquel momento la Comunidad Económica Europea, fue la primera entidad no estatal que recibió el estatuto de observador en la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas. El motivo de esta actuación es dar cumplimiento a las competencias que le han sido atribuidas por los Estados miembros y para alcanzar sus fines. En este artículo me centraré sobre todo en las relaciones con Naciones Unidas donde la Unión goza de diversos estatutos. Mi objetivo es exponer la base jurídica en la cual la Unión se apoya para poder establecer estas relaciones, desarrollarlas y, trazar algunos límites y obstáculos a los cuales tiene que enfrentarse.
The European Union evolves relations with other internationalorganisations in its foreign policy and has an innovative positionin this field, for instance, the Union, respectively the EuropeanEconomic Community was the first non-state entity which receivedthe observer status in the General Assembly of the United Nations atits time. The reason of this action is the fulfilment of its competencesto which it was assigned by its Member States and the completion ofits objectives. In this article I will especially focus on the relationsof the European Union with the United Nations where the Union enjoysthe variety of statutes. My goal is to expose the legal base withwitch the Union backs the establishment and evolvement of these relationsand outline some of the limits and obstacles to which it faces.
