In october of 1964, cardinal Carlo Confalonieri introduced the first issue of Studi Emigrazione (Migration Studies), a peer- reviewed migration studies journal published by the Centro Studi Emigrazione in Rome. The prelate stressed the necessity of a new global pastoral approach to human migration and underscored the importance of the Church understanding contemporary and historical migrations. In subsequent decades, the journal has represented and analyzed trends in local, continental and intercontinental migrations. While each editor-in-chief has contributed unique points of entry to analyze the phenomenon, Studi Emigrazione has remained constant in its commitment to explorations of human mobility.
